Robert Bell - drums

Robbie was always my first choice for a drummer, as he has rhythm in his spirit, and a great spirit at that. I worked with him in the music technology industry for years and the bond that formed felt comfortably safe when I first moved to form a band that would bring my songs to life in an ensemble for the first time. He’s not just a drummer, he’s a gigging percussionist and has that percussionist’s subtle and dynamic approach to kit playing that I need and love. Basically, you could say that he hits like a man, but is as sensitive as a woman! (sorry Rob, but it’s true!). He’s also a fine producer/engineer, with many critically acclaimed remixes to his credit, most notably his recent collaboration with Phillip Glass. Robbie often complains in rehearsal that I like ‘way too much ride cymbal’ but the coffee is so good he can’t help but oblige me, bless him.

Clint Chin Quan - bass

Clint worked with both Rob and I in the same music technology business for years and he was also an obvious and clear choice for bass guitar contributions within the band. He is unbelievable. He’s got the frenzy, but he’s also extremely Zen. I like that he doesn’t strictly stick to my bass lines and plays with them, taking them to unexpected places. That is, after all, the beauty of playing live. Clint is also bewitched by the coffee in rehearsals yet is very laid back. In his own gigs though, as with Red Circle, which is a monster rock pop outfit just dripping in melodies and walls of lush guitar - he can really switch it on, foot on the wedge, bass in your face, strutting and pouting like a bonafide Rock God. After many years touring throughout the world with various bands, (and let’s face it, Clint said he relished doing my gigs, if nothing else, because he got to sit down. I had the privilege of singing back up vocals on one track from the album something ‘World that I See’ I was thinking chilli peppers when I did it and it worked well, I think. Clint was chuffed b Amarevois
